Service Line

Finance Systems & Technology

Selection, implementation, and optimization of the technology infrastructure that modern finance operations depend on. ERP, accounting platforms, planning systems, reporting tools, and the integrations that make them function as a coherent environment rather than a collection of tools.

When clients engage us

Situations that typically drive this conversation

01

Existing systems have been outgrown by business complexity

Growth, entity expansion, or operational complexity has stretched existing systems beyond their effective scale.

02

A system selection is underway without structured evaluation

Vendor demonstrations and internal champions are driving toward a decision without the requirements analysis and evaluation framework that the decision warrants.

03

A prior implementation has not delivered expected value

Implementations that have gone live without achieving the operational improvements they were intended to deliver require structured optimization.

04

Data across systems does not reconcile

Fragmented data across accounting, operational, and customer systems creates reporting inconsistency and erodes confidence in the numbers.

05

Manual workarounds consume substantial analyst time

Recurring manual processes indicate integration, configuration, or process design issues that can be structurally resolved.

Capabilities

What this service line delivers

01

Systems requirements and selection

Structured requirements assessment, vendor evaluation, and selection support for ERP, accounting, planning, and reporting platforms. Vendor-neutral recommendations grounded in requirements fit, total cost of ownership, and implementation risk. Includes request for proposal process, vendor demonstrations, and selection recommendation.

02

Implementation program management

Project management, configuration oversight, data migration planning, and change management for finance technology implementations. Coordination across vendors, internal teams, and third-party implementation partners. Outlook operates as part of the implementation team rather than purely as advisor.

03

Data migration and validation

Design of data migration approach including source data cleansing, mapping to target system structures, cutover strategy, and post-migration validation. Reconciliation of migrated balances and transaction detail. Documentation of migration decisions for subsequent reference.

04

Systems optimization

Evaluation and refinement of existing systems. Workflow redesign, integration improvements, automation of manual processes, and the elimination of workarounds that consume analyst time. Delivered as a prioritized roadmap with quantified impact where possible.

05

Reporting and analytics infrastructure

Design and implementation of reporting layers on top of operational systems. Data warehouse architecture, business intelligence platform configuration, and the integration logic that produces reliable consolidated reporting across the systems environment.

The finance systems stack

The finance systems architecture

Modern finance functions depend on an integrated technology stack, not a single system. Outlook engagements address selection, implementation, integration, and optimization across every layer of that stack.

Frequently asked

Questions clients ask before engaging

Is Outlook associated with specific software vendors?

No. Outlook is vendor-neutral and does not accept compensation, commissions, or referral fees from software vendors. Recommendations are based exclusively on requirements fit, total cost of ownership, and implementation risk for the specific client situation. This independence is central to the service.

Common systems within team experience include NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Workday Financial Management, Oracle Cloud ERP, SAP S/4HANA, QuickBooks Online, Xero, and the planning and reporting platforms that integrate with them — Workday Adaptive Planning, Anaplan, Vena, Power BI, Tableau, and others. Specific system experience can be confirmed during scoping.

Configuration is typically performed by the software vendor’s professional services organization or an authorized implementation partner, with Outlook providing program management, requirements oversight, data migration design, testing coordination, and validation. We operate as an owner-side integration partner rather than as a system integrator. This separation protects the client’s interests during vendor-led work.

Implementation duration is scope-dependent. Small-to-mid market ERP implementations — QuickBooks Online to NetSuite or Sage Intacct — typically run four to eight months. Mid-market ERP implementations run six to fourteen months. Enterprise implementations of Workday, Oracle, or SAP run twelve to thirty months depending on scope and complexity.

Yes. Many engagements extend past go-live into a dedicated post-implementation optimization phase — typically three to nine months addressing the issues that surface in the first six months of live operation. These issues include workflow refinement, integration gaps, reporting adjustments, and user adoption support.
